Using the manufacturer's own RFID-equipped spools or materials from other brands (such as Forshape), the Bambu Lab Automatic Material System automatically manages the supply and replacement of filaments.
The mix of materials must be specified via the slicer, Bambu Studio. Once the printing process is underway, it is possible to remotely supervise and control the process using a smartphone via the Bambu Handy mobile application.
It is important to note that the Bambu Lab AMS solution is compatible with 1kg reels, however not all materials compatible with the X1 and P1P can be used. For example, the use of TPU and PVA filament in theAMS is not an option, as these flexible materials can cause obstructions in the system.
In addition, Bambu Lab recommends avoiding the use of materials such as PA-CF (carbon fibre), PA-GF (fibreglass), wood, glow-in-the-dark filaments and other abrasive filaments to prevent damage to theAMS feed funnel.
AMS is an intelligent production system that gives your Bambu Lab printer the power to print in series.
Equipped with a 32-bit microcontroller, sensor networks, actuators and an intelligent algorithm,AMS has reached an unprecedented level of intelligence. It expertly loads and unloads filaments, while detecting and correcting any faults. Automatic filament changing reduces manual operations and increases 3D printer uptime.
WithoutAMS, when the filament runs out, manually replacing the spool interrupts printing and wastes filament. WithAMS, there is a smooth transition to a new spool, allowing uninterrupted printing and reducing waste to a minimum.
TheAMS has an airtight seal, and thanks to a desiccant material, it absorbs moisture to keep it away from the filament. In addition, a humidity sensor monitors the humidity level inside theAMS and communicates this information to the user when humidity is excessive or when the desiccant needs to be replaced. To ensure the best print quality, it is essential to use a dry filament.
Each Bambu Lab AMS unit is equipped with 4 filament slots, and up to 4 AMS units can be installed in parallel, making it possible to manage a total of 16 colours for exceptional, distinctive prints. To obtain these 16 colours, simply connect the 4 AMS units via the AMS Hub.
Bambu Lab filaments use RFID technology, read by theAMS to automatically identify and apply the best settings for your material. The RFID tag is automatically synchronised with Bambu Studio.
Non Bambu Lab filaments must be configured manually in Bambu Studio or in the printer. We recommend the ecoPLA range from Forshape with theAMS.
