ReinforcedPLA is a material that has become very common in 3D printing. It offers characteristics and mechanical properties similar to those ofABS while retaining the ease of printing of PLA.
The PLA reinforced spools category groups together all the PLA filaments offering superior performance to the traditional grade. The high rigidity of standard PLA makes it rather brittle and not very resistant to shocks and bending. Because of these mechanical weaknesses, ABS is often preferred for more technical applications. It is with this in mind, and knowing the difficulties sometimes encountered with the latter, that manufacturers have developed these reinforcedPLA . With improved properties in terms of resistance to use, these reinforced PLA filaments make it possible to obtain solid, robust printed parts capable of competing with their styrene counterparts.
Why choose reinforced PLA filaments?
PLA reinforced is made up largely of PLA and contains a number of additives. There are different types of reinforced PLA, the best known being PLA Tough . These mechanical properties, combined with its ease of printing, make it a very effective material.
Choosing a reinforcedPLA is never a mistake. Whether it's for greater impact resistance (PLA Tough or Polymax), greater printing speed, or even unexpected characteristics (PLA Ultra), reinforced PLA filaments retain the printing qualities in FDM of standard PLA filaments while increasing their technical features.
PLA reinforced: What uses?
It is very often used in industry and by professionals to manufacture 3D parts and objects. Its low delamination and deformation during printing with this reinforced PLA filament make it very easy to obtain mechanical parts. This is why this material is often used for functional prototyping. It is ideal for printing large 3D parts because it does not have the warping problems ofABS.
It can also be used in the manufacture of more common objects requiring good resistance. Reinforced PLA is an excellent compromise between PLA and more technical materials.
Note, however, that reinforced PLA is often no more heat-resistant than conventional PLA. We therefore recommend ABS orASA.
