Structured light technology is widely used in 3D scanning and allows you to save time during the scanning phase without significant loss of quality. This technology projects a light pattern onto the scanning area which is analyzed by cameras and scanning software to calculate the distance and deformation of the object.

Advantages of structured light technology

The main advantage is the speed of the operation, allowing scanning of relatively large areas in just 2 to 5 seconds. The quality remains very good and you can scan very quickly medium to large-sized objects.

One drawback of this type of scanner is that they are sensitive to lighting conditions in a given environment, which is less true for a 3D laser scanner. For example, working outdoors will be extremely difficult.
