The Revopoint Range 3 Pro is a portable 3D scanner designed to scan objects of various sizes, from small components to large parts. It combines two complementary technologies: VCSEL infrared structured light, suitable for capturing large surfaces, and an 11-parallel-line infrared laser, designed for faster scanning and applications requiring greater volumetric accuracy.
Its Wi-Fi 6 connection and mobile kit with a 5,000 mAh battery make it easier to move around the object without relying on a USB cable. With a scanning volume of up to 4 m and markerless tracking in laser mode, the Range 3 Pro is suitable for reverse engineering, 3D modelling and scanning technical parts.
VCSEL mode projects a structured infrared light pattern, which the scanner analyses to reconstruct the object's geometry. It is particularly suitable for large surfaces and bulky objects, with a capture rate of 20 to 30 frames per second.
Its working distance of 200 to 1,000 mm accommodates different object sizes. This mode is also available on the standard RANGE 3.
Exclusive to the Range 3 Pro, laser mode projects 11 parallel infrared lines to capture surface geometry quickly. It reaches 80 to 105 frames per second with a compatible NVIDIA GPU, compared with 40 to 60 frames per second when using a CPU.
This technology is suitable for technical parts and scanning tasks where volumetric accuracy is a priority. The working distance in laser mode is 200 to 600 mm.
In multi-line laser mode, the Revopoint Range 3 Pro offers volumetric accuracy of 0.03 mm + 0.2 mm × L (m), where L represents the object's length in metres.
In VCSEL mode, the value is 0.05 mm + 1 mm × L (m). This distinction is essential when assessing the expected results for objects of different sizes. These values are established under controlled test conditions.
Thanks to Wi-Fi 6 and the included mobile kit, the Range 3 Pro lets users move around an object without remaining connected to a computer via a data cable. Its 5,000 mAh battery provides up to three hours of runtime.
The magnetic phone holder completes the setup for mobile use. This configuration is particularly practical for scanning bulky parts, equipment or objects that are difficult to move.
The Range 3 Pro supports objects ranging from 20 × 20 × 20 mm to 4 × 4 × 4 m. It can therefore be used to scan both small components and large parts or bulky shapes.
Its minimum scanning volume is smaller than that of the standard RANGE 3. The selected scanning mode and object preparation remain important for obtaining a usable mesh.
The capture rate reaches 105 frames per second in laser mode with a compatible NVIDIA GPU. With a CPU, the rate is 40 to 60 frames per second.
In VCSEL mode, the capture rate ranges from 20 to 30 frames per second. This difference makes it possible to select the appropriate mode according to the object's size, the available computer configuration and the level of detail required.
The working distance varies according to the technology used. VCSEL mode operates between 200 and 1,000 mm, making it easier to capture large surfaces.
Multi-line laser mode uses a range of 200 to 600 mm, which is suitable for closer scanning. Keeping within these distances helps maintain stable tracking and consistent data. They also make it possible to adapt the scanner's position to the part's dimensions and geometry.
The area captured in a single shot reaches 687 × 672 mm at a distance of 1,000 mm in VCSEL mode. At 200 mm, it measures 113 × 134 mm.
This variation makes it possible to prioritise wide coverage or more localised capture according to requirements. When scanning a large object, a wider capture area reduces the number of movements required. However, the details and quality of the result still depend on the scanning conditions.
In laser mode, the Range 3 Pro can track an object's geometry without always requiring markers to be attached to its surface. Feature-based and colour tracking help align successive captures.
This capability reduces preparation time on certain parts and limits handling before scanning. Markers remain useful, however, when a surface has few distinctive features or tracking conditions are challenging.
The 1.3-megapixel RGB camera records colour information alongside geometry. In laser mode on a computer, colour tracking can also help with alignment when geometric features are limited.
This feature is useful for decorative objects, models intended for visualisation and projects where the surface appearance matters as much as the shape. The result depends in particular on lighting and the object's texture.
The Range 3 Pro can be used under ambient lighting below 100,000 lux. This capability opens up opportunities for outdoor scanning, particularly for large objects or equipment that is difficult to move into a workshop.
Results remain sensitive to actual lighting, the scanned surface and the selected mode. For transparent or highly reflective surfaces, using scanning spray is recommended to facilitate data capture.
Weighing 220 g and measuring 163 × 57 × 32 mm, the Range 3 Pro is easy to carry between workstations. Its portable design simplifies scanning around large objects or items installed in confined spaces.
Combined with the mobile kit, it makes it possible to scan without routinely moving the part to a dedicated workstation. This mobility is an advantage for workshops, on-site interventions and field surveys.
Data from the Range 3 Pro can be exported in several formats, including PLY, OBJ, STL, ASC, 3MF, GLTF, FBX and Splat. This variety makes it easier to reuse data according to the project: meshes for 3D printing, geometry for modelling or data for visualisation.
The format should be selected according to the target software and the information that needs to be retained. Post-processing is often still required before integrating the data into a manufacturing or design workflow.
The processing tools in Revo Scan 6 include artificial intelligence-assisted segmentation and cropping features. They make it easier to identify the scanned object and remove certain unwanted background data.
In laser mode, cropping can also be performed using the RGB camera view. These tools speed up scan clean-up, but the point cloud still needs to be checked before exporting the final model.
The Range 3 Pro works with Windows 10 and 11, macOS 11 or later, Android and iOS. This compatibility makes it possible to adapt the workflow to the workplace and available resources.
Performance depends on the configuration used, particularly for high-frequency laser scanning. For computer use, it is recommended to check the processor, RAM and graphics card requirements before deploying the scanner in a production environment.
The Revopoint Range 3 Pro integrates with a software environment covering several stages of 3D data processing. Revo Scan 6 is used to capture data, process the point cloud, generate a mesh and export the model in the format suited to the project. Revo Design complements this workflow with scan-to-CAD tools for reverse engineering and reconstructing geometries suitable for design.
Revo Measure is dedicated to metrology: it can compare scans with CAD models or drawings, analyse deviations and measure dimensions. Together, these tools help move from capture to data exploitation, from modelling to quality control. The exact capabilities depend on the available software and licences.
The Revopoint Range 3 Pro stands out above all for combining two technologies that meet different needs. VCSEL mode is well suited to quickly covering large objects, while the 11-line laser offers improved stated volumetric accuracy and a higher capture rate. It is an interesting choice for workshops that alternate between scanning bulky parts and capturing technical components.
However, it is important to remember that a good specification sheet alone does not guarantee metrological results: surface preparation, tracking, computer configuration and post-processing all affect the final quality. Its versatility is a real advantage for reverse engineering and modelling. For demanding dimensional inspection, the complete workflow and required tolerances should be validated before integrating it into a quality-control process.
