Flame-retardant filament
Flame-retardant filaments in this category are few, as the use of thermoplastics generally contradicts the goal of working with fire-resistant materials. A flame-retardant or self-extinguishing filament will not catch fire. The UL 94 V0 standard refers to a very specific behavior of this filament when exposed to a flame.
Flame-retardant filament: benefits and function
These flame-retardant or V0 filaments will not produce flaming droplets and will self-extinguish within 10 seconds. If your applications require a V0 fire-rated material, consider using your 3D printer with the appropriate filament.
Technical and high-performing, 3D filaments with the V0 rating are generally based on PC, meaning hobbyist or semi-professional printers may struggle to print these flame-retardant filaments. High extrusion, bed, and chamber temperatures are recommended.
Why choose a flame-retardant, V0 filament?
In many fields or applications, the use of fire-rated / V0 materials is essential. Major manufacturers like Nanovia and Polymaker meet this need by offering a few versions of these products suitable for 3D printing.
We particularly recommend the flame-retardant filament from the technical Fiberon range, the Polymaker Fiberon™ PPS-CF10.
Recommended for high-performance printers like Ultimaker and Raise3D, this filament with fire-resistant properties requires some experience and attention to potential bed adhesion issues.
Available in a few colors and in 1.75mm or 2.85mm diameters, these flame-retardant spools ensure high-performance, technical production suited for the most demanding or extreme environments.
