Filament Buffer – Bambu Lab X1 and P1 Series

The Filament Buffer is an accessory designed to work with a single AMS unit on 3D printers from the X1 and P1 series. Its main role is to act as a buffer for the filament, compensating for variations in feeding and ensuring a constant and steady flow to the extruder.

Specifically, the buffer absorbs sudden movements and potential “jerks” as the filament moves from the AMS storage to the print head — which is especially important for continuous or long-duration printing.

The module comes ready to use, with mounting screws included, and connects via a 4-pin cable (input) and 6-pin cable (output), ensuring a reliable link between the AMS and the printer.

When to use it?

• If you are using a single AMS unit with your X1 or P1 — the buffer is then essential.
• When you want smooth and stable feeding, without risk of blockages or sudden filament variations — especially useful for long or critical prints.
• When you are looking for a simple and reliable setup, without going through a hub or multi-AMS installation.

Note

If you plan to connect multiple AMS units, the buffer is no longer suitable — in that case, an AMS Hub should be used.

The buffer is compact, discreet, and does not add unnecessary complexity to your setup. However, it is a fundamental component to ensure stable filament feeding, and therefore consistent prints — especially with sensitive filaments or intensive use.
